The surroundings of the Parkhotel Herne offer numerous, varied possibilities for recreational activities in the Ruhrgebiet. Be it a relaxing hike on one of the countless paths through the charming landscape, an impressive bike ride along endlessly beautiful meadows and through green forests or a cultural excursion to one of the many museums, exhibitions and sights.

Despite its name, the Industrial Heritage Trail is not a single route. It is a network combining museums, exhibitions, panoramic viewpoints and historically significant settlements. Its individual stations embody the industrial developments of the past centuries in the Ruhr Area. It is the world’s most extensive tourism network exploring the industrial heritage of a coherent region. For cyclists, there is a special route network.

Leisure route that spans around 400 kilometres and takes you past all attractions. It is part of a larger network of cycling routes comprising around 700 kilometres of road as part of the initiative ‘The Industrial Heritage Trail By Bike’. There are also routes for people with disabilities and adventure trails for children.

Archaeological museum in Herne

The LWL-Museum für Archäologie is a federal state museum by the Westfalen-Lippe Regional Council. It showcases 250,000 years of human habitation in Westphalia. Visit the research laboratory to gain insight into the methods employed by archaeologists who investigate the past.
